Becoming a Kinsmen: Lessons from the Nbari Journey

Feb 28, 2026

For me, design has always been about more than just visuals; it's about building something meaningful. I’ve always known I wanted to create, but in the beginning, I was just scratching the surface. I was working on user interfaces, seeing things only for their beauty and how they work, the simplicity of it, without ever questioning the why behind them.

I don’t think I was open-minded enough. I didn’t stop to observe or notice things, but deep down, I knew I wanted more.

When my friend showed me the program and encouraged me to join, I was nervous and shy, a little unsure of myself, and surrounded by people who I felt looked like they had it all figured out. But I also started it with one hope: to learn how to build a brand from the ground up.

That first class to me was a turning point. I realized I couldn’t keep approaching design the way I always had and that I needed to change.

At Nbari, I learned the value of keeping an open mind, of pausing to observe, and of analyzing the story behind what makes something beautiful. Tunde, one of the faculty, left a lasting mark on me with his teaching and perspective. My project challenged me in ways I had never experienced before, but it was the kind of challenge I enjoyed. And even in the moments when I doubted myself, I reminded myself: I’m the type of person who finishes what I start, so I know I have to finish no matter the challenges. The money paid was also a good motivator.

The community changed me too. Working with my peers and facilitators opened my eyes to different perspectives, seeing how differently people view the world. Feedback became my standard: if I didn’t receive any, I felt I hadn’t done enough. And in that shared space of helping each other, sharing tools, and exchanging experiences, I found growth beyond what I imagined.

Today, I see the difference clearly. The old me would stop at “that’s pretty.” The new me asks, “What makes it beautiful? What’s the story behind it?” I’ve learned to be observant, to analyze, and to seek deeper meaning. People around me have noticed too; they’ve been impressed by the shift. Even though I’m still waiting for the big opportunities, I know I am well equipped now to attain greatness.

My mission is simple: to show the world what I am capable of and to bring my vision to life by building a brand and advertising firm.

To anyone thinking of taking this journey, I can only say: if you want your eyes opened, if you want to see beyond the surface, then this is the place to be.
